Dalyla

I don't live in Colorado any longer, so I can't make it to the alumni reunion. I do wish you all an awesome time! I believe Dalyla will be 7 years old in November. I adopted her from a puppy adoption you all hosted at the Petco in Aurora, CO at the beginning of the year in 2006 or 2007. She was a super shy puppy. I remember seeing her being taken out of the fronts doors by her new owner, who had named her "snow dog" because it was snowing out. I also remember as I stood watching from the back of the store, she came running back into the store through the automatic doors and into her kennel. The man who adopted her took her home, only for her to be back up for adoption the next time you had one at that store again. Your staff explained to us that she was a very shy dog and needed special care, as she was returned because you hid under the furniture at her first adopted home and would not come out, which is why they brought her back. She was so precious and we were sold! When we first brought her home, she could not have cared less and hid in her crate all of the time. We honored and respected that as her safe space. Once she did become attached, we went through a period of intense separation anxiety, which we navigated with the help of our vet. We went through a variety of puppy classes and training, even some herding training. After all of this time, she is still is very people shy, but once she attaches, she gets very bonded, needing to make sure her "herd" ends with as many as it started, etc. She is trained as my service dog now, and is the best dog companion I could imagine. Thank you for what you all do and for making our connection
